What’s New in Microsoft OneNote 2013

By Sean Ditch

If you are enjoying the new Windows 8 OS, then you will appreciate the new features in Microsoft's Office 2013, which is scheduled for release during Q1 of 2013. Microsoft has redesigned each of its popular Office applications, and we will highlight a few of these new features by looking at OneNote 2013.

In Sync

With In Sync from OneNote 2013, you can say "Bye, Bye, Bye" to thumb drives and email storage, because now all of your notes are stored on Microsoft's cloud service SkyDrive and SharePoint with No Strings Attached. OneNote 2013 is compatible with multiple mobile platforms like Windows Phone, iOS, and Android phones, this makes it possible for all of your different devices to sync to the cloud and display the most current version of your notes, This I Promise You.

Inking

OneNote 2013 is taking full advantage of Windows 8 new touch-friendly interface with a new drawing feature called Inking. By swiping your screen with your finger, a stylus, or a mouse, OneNote will let you use your screen as a notepad, enabling you to draw, erase, and edit. And for those of you who miss the days of Palm Pilots, the Inking feature will convert your handwriting into text, no matter how sloppy of a note taker you are.

Embed Files

Embed Files for OneNote 2013 lets you insert just about anything into your notes; documents, pictures, videos, and much more can be added with a click or a tap. And to help organize your notes, OneNote 2013 will even display a preview next of the files that you have embedded. The Embed Files feature will also update the files you inserted into OneNote; this means if you make an edit to a chart in Excel, then OneNote will automatically update the embedded Excel chart.

Search

OneNote 2013 has enhanced the Search feature to include almost any of the content inside of your notes. Whether it is the title of a file, a term in a note, or even a text in a picture, OneNote has expanded its search capabilities to help you quickly find what you are looking for.

Collaboration Made Easy

Because your notes are saved to Microsoft's cloud service SkyDrive or SharePoint, this means that you, or anyone you give permission to, can access the most current version of your notes from anywhere and on almost any platform. Sharing a note with a friend is as easy as sending a link to the file. You can even view and share your notes over a browser with the OneNote Web App.
